General Information

Symposium venue:

The 5th Eurolag will take place in the Rectorate building of the University of Aveiro The reception desk will be open from Monday morning onwards. The opening session is scheduled for Monday, 25th at 2.00 p.m.

Oral communication presentations:

The basis for oral communications will be Microsoft Power Point (.ppt files) and the presentation hall will have PC computers. Your personal computer cannot be used in the rooms. If you work with Mac OS X, please make sure to export it so that it will be compatible with Windows-based PowerPoint. There will be a room for presentation preview.

Please check your communication before delivering it to the symposium secretariat. The powerpoint file with your oral presentation must be supplied to the secretariat the day before your presentation. If it is scheduled to take place on Monday, 25th, please supply your file Monday morning the soonest possible. Each symposium topic will start with a 40 minutes keynote speaker presentation. All the other oral communications will have a total of 20 minutes, including the time for discussion.

Posters:

Posters should be no more than 90cm wide x 120cm height. Posters will be on display during the whole symposium. Authors are kindly requested to put up their posters as soon as possible and to take them down during Friday morning.

Poster sessions are previewed in the programme. There will be a prize for the student best poster offered by the Euro-Mediterranean Federation on Coastal Lagoons. Students who want to participate should ask at the secretariat the identification cards for their posters.

Social Programme:

All registered participants are invited to join the social events proposed by the 5th Eurolag

Icebreaker: Monday afternoon in the Rectorate building hall

Lunches: from 25th to 29th July

Lunches are offered at the University Restaurant (see the campus map on the symposium website), near to the Rectorate building. Meal vouchers will be distributed with the Symposium material at the registration and information desk. Accompanying people can buy meal tickets until 12.00 h of the previous day. There wil be tea/coffee breaks the morning and afternoon sessions, from 25th to 29th July and these are included in the registration fees.

Symposium dinner:

The symposium dinner will take place on Wednesday evening. A voucher will be distributed to all participants and accompanying people who have pre-registered and paid. On-site registration is still possible but only until Tuesday morning.

Symposium trip:

On Saturday morning a trip will be arranged along one of the main channels of Ria de Aveiro on the traditional boats “Moliceiros”. These boats were used to collect the “Moliço”, a mixture of algae and seagrasses, used some years ago as a soil fertilizer. We will stop for about 1.30 h to visit “Costa Nova”, a small fishermen town (nowadays a tourist place), near Aveiro and located between the Atlantic and the Ria.

The traditional wooden houses are a “must see” before you leave. This trip is included in the registration fee but it is necessary to confirm your intention to participate until Wednesday morning.

Photographic Exhibition:

Photographs by Victor Quintino under the theme “Revelações. Vida na Areia, Vida na Rocha” (Revealing. Life in the Sand, Life on the Rocks) will be exhibited in the Hall of the Rectorate building during the symposium.

Puppet Shadow Theatre

With the collaboration of Fábrica, Centro de Ciência Viva de Aveiro, the puppet shadow theatre “Diopatra, Lady of the Rings” was produced to promote public awareness of a lagoon ecosystem biodiversity, species relationships and needs for environmental protection. The theatre will be presented on the final day of the Symposium, in Portuguese and will be of interest to all the symposium participants but is mainly directed to young pupils audience.
